War of 1812 Bicentennial Event
11:30 AM - 12:00 PM
The Ohio War of 1812 Bicentennial Commission, in concurrence with the Peter Navarre Chapter United States Daughters of 1812, will hold a midday commemoration ceremony in downtown Cleveland.
Keynote speaker C. Ellen Connally, Cuyahoga County Council president, will accept on behalf of the county a 15-star, 15-stripe American flag. The flag is to be flown over the county courthouse.
Colors will be posted by the Archibald M. Willard SAR Color Guard. A naval honor guard will fire a 3-round volley military salute to honor the fallen members of the War of 1812.
The event commemorates this bicentennial year of the start of the War of 1812 and the veterans who fought and died in that conflict. It is they who gave up their tomorrows so we, as Americans, could have ours.
All are invited to attend and urged to bring handheld bells to be run at noon in conjunction with the ringing of church bells at the conclusion of the ceremony.
Location:
Cuyahoga County Courthouse steps, Lakeside at Ontario avenues, downtown Cleveland
