Remembering Vietnam: 50 Years Later
7:00 PM - 8:45 PM
Fifty years ago, in March 1965, President Lyndon B. Johnson sent the first combat troops to South Vietnam. The announcement was made at a noontime press conference because it was assumed it would be a short engagement. Mary Reynolds Powell was a senior in high school but 5 1/2 years later she was a captain in the Army Nurse Corps serving in a war that would not end. Mary became the author of "A World of Hurt: Between Innocence and Arrogance in Vietnam" based upon her experiences and the stories of veterans she compiled. Sponsored in collaboration with the Bay Village Historical Society, a book sale and signing will follow.
