Bay Village Bicentennial events announced
Excitement is building for the Bay Village 200-year birthday celebration. The Bicentennial committee has announced its slate of activities in and around Cahoon Memorial Park for October 9 and October 10.
An early morning 5K race begins the fun on Saturday, Oct. 9. Cahoon Park will be filled with music, food and vendors from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be children’s crafts and games, pumpkin painting and face painting. Historic re-enactment demonstrations will take place in the valley where the log cabin is located. The Bay Men’s Club will play a vintage game at noon against the Cleveland Blues Base Ball Club using 1860s rules.
Hop aboard Lolly the Trolley for a Bicentennial city tour, or take the trolley shuttle for events taking place throughout the day at the Bay Village Branch Library, Lake Erie Nature and Science Center, BAYarts and the Lakeside Cemetery. Bay Village Kiwanis will be sponsoring a citywide scavenger hunt for children and adults.
Festivities resume on Sunday, Oct. 10, the actual Bicentennial date. Competitors in the Beard-Growing contest will meet at the Cahoon Memorial Park Gazebo at 11:30 a.m. for judging. A Grand Parade with marching bands and floats begins at 3 p.m. Following the parade, attendees will be treated to performances in the park by the Bay Village Community Band and The Singing Angels. Presentations can be viewed there throughout the day on the large video screen. A salute to the city will include birthday cake for all, provided by Heinen’s. The celebration will culminate in a closing ecumenical service with all of the Bay Village churches and a combined choir, and the lighting of the replica of the original 1882 Cahoon barn cupola on the Community House.
