Second winning "Letter to the Future" announced

Earlier this year the Bay Village Bicentennial Committee wondered what residents living today would write to those living 100 years from now, in 2110, during Bay's 300th Birthday.

The committee offered residents an opportunity to do just that. The deadline for writing was 7-10-10. Three letters have been selected to be placed in a time capsule to be opened in 2110.

The letter writers were put into three age categories: 16 and under, 17 to 65, and those over 65. Two weeks ago the committee published a letter from little Caroline Dannemiller, age 9, as the winner in the 16 and under category.

Now we offer the winning letter of the 65 and over category.

It is interesting that the winning letter does not come from a long-time resident but it shows the pride and love of Bay that residents - long-time and short - share every day.

Congratulations to Dianne Borowski!

Here's her letter, originally printed on stationery that said at the top: "Hold tight to the dreams you have today, and walk boldly in their direction."

Dear Citizens of Bay Village,                                             10-10-2110

I am honored that you are reading my letter today. Hopefully, you are enjoying a bright, sunny Fall afternoon.  Autumn in Bay Village is breathtaking, isn’t it?

It stretches my imagination to think that you are living in Bay Village in 2110, celebrating the 300th birthday of our community. What pride you must feel knowing that you are a part of 300 years of planning, building and shaping begun by those courageous, forward-thinking settlers who founded our town.

I would like you to know that I am a new member of the community. After my retirement, my husband and I relocated to Bay Village. Residents and businesses here have been most kind, helpful and friendly. We have found a wonderful home here. We love the tree-lined streets, the parks, being so close to the lake, and enjoy the many young people who go out of their way to be pleasant to us “older folks.”

I can honestly say I would never want to live anywhere else. Bay Village is home and we are happy to be here.

I wish the best to you and your families. Please continue that which was begun 300 years ago. Work hard to keep Bay Village the great home town it is.

            Fond wishes from the past,

            Dianne M. Borowski
