Learning to Talk

The lady is flapping her lips
and tongue. She has a cell phone
stuck to her ear with super glue.
A small child is at her side
holding on tightly,
attached, invisible,
wondering if she will ever
learn to talk.
I hope the lady doesn't
ask me the time of day, for
my mother taught me not to speak
to someone on the phone.
