Thursdays, September 9 – October 21 (6:30-7:30 p.m.) Kids’ Smart Start Financial Literacy Series – Parents and kids will learn about financial management together. Bring your child and learn how to make wise financial decisions from the get-go! Registration begins August 26. Series will continue in October with sessions for teens and their parents. September sessions are as follows:
- 9/9: Starting Smart – For parents of kids ages newborn to 2. Parents only, please.
- 9/16: Making Sense of Money – For parents and kids ages 3-5
- 9/23: Raising Savvy Savers – For parents and kids ages 6-8
- 9/30: Kids Mean Business – For parents and kids ages 9-12
Thursday, September 9 (7 p.m.) Non-Fiction Book Discussion – The September selection is "Curse of the Labrador Duck" by Glen Chilton.
Friday, September 10 (7 p.m.) The 36 Hour Day – Dr. Peter Rabins, author of "The 36 Hour Day," will discuss Alzheimer’s Disease, resources available to caregivers whose loved ones are suffering from it, and more. Program will take place at the Westlake Performing Arts Center. Presented by the Friends of Porter Public Library.
Sunday, September 12 (1-5 p.m.) Sunday Hours Resume – The library will be open on Sundays for the school year starting today.
Monday, September 13 Fall Storytime Session begins – No registration is necessary, but the Storytime Room capacity is 58. Storytimes are as follows:
- Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays starting September 13 (9:30 a.m.) SUMMER LAPSIT STORYTIME – Fun rhymes and stories for ages 6-24 months with an adult caregiver.
- Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays starting September 13 (10:15 a.m.) SUMMER TODDLER STORYTIME – Stories, rhymes and silly dancing for ages 2-3 1/2 with an adult caregiver.
- Wednesdays, starting September 15 (1:30 p.m.) MORNING FAMILY STORYTIME – Stories, songs and rhymes for the whole family!
- Wednesdays, starting September 15 (10:15 a.m.) AFTERNOON FAMILY STORYTIME – Stories, songs and rhymes for the whole family!
Tuesday, September 14 (6:30-8:30 p.m.) Teen Movie – Teens in grades 6-12: Join us for a screening of the movie based on Lise Friedman’s book "Letters to Juliet." In Verona, Italy, where Romeo first met Juliet, there’s a place where the heartbroken leave letters to Juliet asking for help. Amanda Seyfried portrays a young woman whose decision to answer one of those letters has life changing results. Rated PG. Please register.
Tuesday, September 14 (7 p.m.) Tuesday Evening Book Discussion – The September selection is "Still Alice" by Lisa Genova. The Alzheimer’s Association’s Mary Lambert will present The 10 Early Warning Signs of Alzheimer’s Disease at this meeting.
Friday, September 17 (10:30-11:15 a.m.) Come Play With Me! – Open playtime with age appropriate toys, songs and rhymes for ages 2-5 and their caring adults. Please register one week before each session.
Saturday, September 18 (9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.) ACT Practice Test – Get ready for test time with an ACT practice exam, then return the following week to get your results and discuss testing strategies and techniques. Please register starting September 11. Must be in grades 10-12.

Wednesday, Sept. 22 (4-6:30 p.m.) High School Manicures — Student nail estheticians from Brown Aveda Institute will be giving free manicures to teens in grades 9-12. Space is limited, and teens must present their own Westlake Porter Public Library card at the time of their appointment. Appointment times are 4:00 p.m., 5:00 p.m., or 6:00 p.m. Call the Youth Services Department at 440-250-5471 to reserve your spot. Registration is required and begins September 15.
