Dover High School 70th Reunion
The 1940 graduating class of Dover High School (now Westlake High) celebrated their 70th anniversary by going to lunch at Athena’s in Avon Lake on Friday, June 18. There were 45 members in their class, but only 15 are left, as far as they know. Theirs was the last graduating class to have the letter "D" on their class rings, as the village of Dover's name was changed to Westlake shortly after the school year ended, in August 1940.
Those who attended the luncheon (pictured, left-to-right) were: Jim Linden, Eydie Kaase, Marie Salemi Reitz, Dorothy Wulf Boster, Helen Leonard Osterman, Dorothy Heitmeyer Mattern and Dr. Paul Kaase. Eydie Kaase, Paul’s wife, joined them even though she wasn’t a member of the class. Jake Marras, another classmate, was ill and unable to meet with the group.
Jim, Helen and Jake started together in first grade in the old red brick building which is still standing next to Lee Burneson Middle School on Dover Center Road. The group has celebrated every five years, but lately have met for lunch every other month or so.
