Bay engineer Bob Ziebarth running for vacant Ward 3 Council seat

Bob Ziebarth announced his candidacy for councilman of Bay's Ward 3.

Longtime Bay Village resident Bob Ziebarth is actively campaigning for the Ward 3 City Council seat being vacated by current Ward 3 representative Scott Pohlkamp, who has opted to run for an At-Large seat in the upcoming fall election. Mr. Ziebarth is a licensed Professional Engineer in 15 states, including Ohio.

“The Code of Ethics for a licensed Professional Engineer is to be dedicated to the protection of the public’s health, safety and welfare; and these are the same principals I will bring to this position,” Ziebarth stated.

With a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Valparaiso University and a specialty in Fire Protection, Mr. Ziebarth would bring a unique skill set to the city that fits well with many of the issues we are currently facing. Some of these issues include storm sewer improvements to help reduce basement flooding, upgrades and maintenance to many of the aging city-owned buildings, and the need to still remain fiscally responsible with regards to the city’s budget.

Mr. Ziebarth is currently employed by Zurich Services Corporation, which is the Risk Engineering arm of Zurich Insurance, where he is a Senior Risk Engineer helping his accounts make decisions that balance their need to make a profit while still providing safe work environments.

“Almost every recommendation I make to my clients has a cost associated with it, so I am always looking for the most cost-effective solutions and I will bring that same thought process with me to the City Council” stated Ziebarth.

Mr. Ziebarth grew up in North Olmsted and first moved to Bay Village with his wife, Michelle, in 1992. After a short work stint in Michigan from 1998 to 2003, they moved back to Bay Village.

“When the opportunity to move back came up, we knew that Bay Village was the place we wanted to call home,” said Ziebarth. “We had young children and knew that Bay Village offered everything we wanted for raising our family.”

Bob and Michelle Ziebarth reside in Bay with their three children, Robert, Nora, and Chaeli. All three attend and are active in the Bay Village schools.
