Free Comic Book Day coming to Porter Library

How do you get more people to read comic books? You take the comics where the readers are. This is the guiding principle behind the team-up of Astound Comics and Westlake Porter Public Library for this year’s Free Comic Book Day event.

Free Comic Book Day is Saturday, May 7. On that day, Astound Comics will provide free comic books to be distributed at the Westlake Porter Public Library from 9 a.m. until supplies run out.

Westlake Porter Public Library is located at 27333 Center Ridge Rd. in Westlake.

Astound Comics has participated in Free Comic Book Day for eight years, but this year marks the first year they have chosen to move the entire event from their store in Westlake to the local library.

“Our goal is to get comics into the hands of as many people as possible,” says Scott Rudge, owner of Astound Comics. “We have worked with the library on a much smaller scale over the last few years, but this year we really wanted to do something different.

“We’ve always been huge fans of comics as a tool to get people interested in reading in general, especially younger kids. This just seemed like a perfectly logical thing to do and we are really looking forward to it. What better place to reach significant numbers of readers than at the public library?”

Local artist John Deluca will be on hand to give interested kids super hero drawing lessons. There will also be prize drawings and other interesting surprises!
