The floataway garbage can

This is a story of a garbage can that tried to make an escape, but was captured and returned to duty.

Lakewood provides nice, big garbage cans on wheels, the same as Bay Village. When Bay Village resident Eric Eakin went to his Lakewood boat dock the day after a huge storm had rolled through the region, the garbage can was gone. It probably was blown into Clifton Lagoon, he thought, and gone forever.

On the following Monday Eakin called Lakewood's garbage collection phone number, and reported the loss of the can. "That's funny," the garbage-can coordinator lady told him. "I just hung up the phone with a guy from Bay Village, who found one of our cans on the beach at the Bay Boat Club."

The gentleman caller from Bay Village was kind enough to haul the can up off the beach, clean it up and return it to Eakin's dock in Lakewood.

And, yes, it was the same garbage can. The serial numbers confirmed it.
