Student art exchange returns to Westlake

Visitors to the Westlake Bicentennial Sister Cities Student Art Exchange at Westlake City Hall this month will discover some engaging art created by students in both Westlake and Tralee, Ireland – Westlake’s Sister City.

This exhibition is the third phase of the collaboration. The first phase presented Westlake student art in a Send Off to Tralee last April at Westlake City Hall. The art was then shipped to Tralee for the second phase, a joint exhibition with the student art of Tralee at Siamsa Tire Theatre in Tralee’s Town Park.

All three phases of the exhibition are special events to celebrate Westlake’s Bicentennial and have been in the planning since spring 2010. The exchange has connected the youth of Westlake and Tralee, sharing expression through visual art, as well as exploring geography, language and music.

Early visitors to the exhibit are exclaiming, “Oh look, there’s ‘Johnny’ [Depp]”; they are smiling back at “Mona”; and they are searching for answers on the process of digital photography.

The art exchange can be visited at City Hall through October 1. Hours are 9 a.m.to 5 p.m. weekdays, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1.
