Don't hibernate yet – there are more fall stories and books at the library!
The days may be getting shorter but there is still lots of fun packed inside the library – from new books on the shelves to more weeks of storytimes. Stop in the library and check out these new children’s books. Some have a fall theme and some are fall publications, but all will entertain.
"A Dog’s Way Home" by Bobbie Pyron
One late fall afternoon, a tragic highway accident leaves Abby and her beloved dog, Tam, stranded at opposite ends of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Though determined to be reunited with each other, the days separating them turn to weeks, then months, while dangers and changes fill up their lives. (Ages 8-14)
"Bink & Gollie" by Kate DiCamillo and Alison McGhee
Meet Bink and Gollie, two precocious little girls – one tiny and one tall. Setting out from their super-deluxe tree house and powered by plenty of peanut butter (for Bink) and pancakes (for Gollie), they share comical adventures involving painfully bright socks, an impromptu trek to the Andes, and a most unlikely marvelous companion. (Ages 6-9)
"Mr. Putter & Tabby Ring the Bell" by Cynthia Rylant and Arthur Howard
While enjoying autumn weather and activities, Mr. Putter, realizing how much he misses going to school, takes his cat, Tabby; their adventurous neighbor, Mrs. Teaberry; and her cake-loving dog, Zeke, to "Show and Tell." (Ages 4-7)
"Happy Pig Day" by Mo Willems
When Piggie celebrates her favorite day of the year, Gerald the elephant is sad, thinking that he cannot join the fun. Mo Willems has crafted a heartfelt story about celebrating the special occasions in life. (Ages 3-6)
"A is for Autumn" by Robert Maass
Photojournalist Maass creates an alphabet book of crisp, colorful photos, transporting viewers outdoors to enjoy the varied sights of fall: frost on fallen leaves, soccer players running, children dressed for trick-or-treat, a scarecrow in a pumpkin patch. (Ages 2-6)
That’s not the only entertainment at the library. There are three more weeks to explore the world of stories, rhymes and musical activities for babies through age 5. These fun-filled literacy programs are on Tuesday-Friday mornings at 10 a.m. and on Tuesday evenings at 6:45 p.m.
Plus the last program in the Reading with the Stars series of special story/craft programs with a guest reader is coming up. Rick Burns, owner of Burns Auto Service will be at the library on Monday, Nov. 28, at 7 p.m. to read a story, talk about his job and help with a craft.
