Parents learn while kids play at Porter Library
Parents can now come to the library and learn about best practices in discipline, diet, children’s social issues, language development or other parenting issues. Westlake Porter Public Library is teaming up with Connecting for Kids to offer “Parent Discussion Groups with Facilitated Playgroups.”
The children will play in a separate room under the guidance of Child Development Experts while parents discuss topics of interest with local experts. These parent discussion groups will not be formal speaker presentations, rather the local experts will answer questions in an informal discussion group.
We have both weekend and weekday groups. The Saturday groups are every third Saturday of the month at 1 p.m. Topics include “How to Help your Child Make Friends” on Saturday, April 21, with Tracy Biller, MA CCC-SLP, and Ellen Spear, MA, CCC-SLP, from Lakeshore Speech. “Homework Hassles: Helping Your Child with Attention Issues” will be May 19 with Joyce Kubik, ADHD coach.
We will also offer weekday brown bag lunch sessions (no peanuts please) on the second and fourth Fridays of every month at 11:30 a.m. While the children play, we will discuss “Getting your Kids to Listen: Best Practices” with Christie Kimbler from A Positive Approach on April 13 .
“How Music can improve language skills” is the topic for May 11 with Alane Krumbine, MT-BS, from the Music Therapy Enrichment Center. For a complete list of topics and to RSVP please visit www.connectingforkids.org.
Connecting for Kids’ mission is to provide education, support and networking for parents with questions or concerns about their child’s development.
