Dwyer Center offers full slate of summer activities

Beat the August heat and head to the air conditioned Dwyer Senior Center for some fun-filled activities. On Thursday, Aug. 8, the Lunch Bunch will enjoy some good food and good company at Nelly Belly, a restaurant at the Emerald Necklace Marina in the Metroparks. This group meets once a month to experience the different cuisine of area restaurants. Your input is always appreciated. If you have a favorite dining place, let us know. The Lunch Bunch will do their best to get you there on the second Thursday of the month.

On Friday, Aug. 9, a trip to the West Side Market is planned. Visit one of Cleveland's most popular landmarks. You'll enjoy the sights and sounds which lend an ethnic flavor to the experience. You can purchase freshly grown local produce or any number of delicious pastries. The group will choose a restaurant for lunch and then stop at Sweet Moses Fountain and Treat Shop for some delicious ice cream or other awesome treats.

On Friday, Aug. 16, a presentation, the ABC's of Diabetes, will be offered. Learn about diabetes and enjoy some simple chair exercises, take home healthy recipes and learn how to access the latest information on diabetes via several websites. A healthy lifestyle is essential to the treatment of diabetes and you will receive many tips on how to live well with diabetes. Caregivers are also welcome.

Friday, Aug. 23, is the highlight of the Center's summer activities. Visit the Great Lakes Science Center Titanic Exhibit. Experience the splendor of the world's largest passenger ship at that time. View representations of the huge reception rooms, the elaborate furniture and elegant dining areas. You will attend an Omnimax movie about the Titanic. If you enjoyed the Hollywood movie "The Titanic," you won't want to miss this close-up look at the entire Titanic adventure.
