Bay City Council Ward 3 Candidate: Walter Halun

Walter Halun

It’s about Bay. My name is Walt Halun, and I am running for council in Ward 3.

During my business career, I worked as the Director of Purchasing for American Ship Building Company for another Bay resident, George Steinbrenner.

We are facing an economic crunch in Bay, but to use Steinbrenner’s words: “Don’t tell me what we can’t do, tell me how you are going to make something happen.”

We need to rebuild our natural beauty through the tree commission.

We need to maintain the New England “look” of Bay by assuring tear-downs and rebuilds are held to architectural standards befitting our city.

We must have “tight” contracts for every tax dollar spent.

We need a watchful eye to obtain every dime of financial help from our State and Federal tax dollars, after all we contributed.

With regard to regionalism, the standard must be the level of service. If consolidating a service degrades the response time to the citizens, have you made the change for the better?

We have had a reduction in revenue; reduced property tax revenues; loss of State support; unfunded EPA mandates and elimination of the estate tax. Let’s work smarter to keep our taxes from increasing by managing our city with best practice business principles. Our seniors are counting on us so they can stay in their homes, and our young families starting out want to have the same Bay Village life that we have enjoyed and shared together.

Thank You Ward 3!

– Walt Halun
