Piling up miles for salad day party

On Feb. 25, Miss Holinek’s third-grade class at Westerly School had our 300-mile salad day party! It all started when we reached 100 miles in Walking Club.

At our school, students can walk on Fridays during recess or any day during indoor recess. When walking outside, six laps equal one mile. Inside, twelve laps equals one mile.  Miss Holinek had a great idea – after we walked 300 miles we could have a salad day party.  We wrote down the food we requested for the party and Miss Holinek created a Google document so parents could sign up online for which food they would send in for the party.

Some of our delicious salad ingredients included black olives, eggs, celery, tomatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, pickles and of course, lettuce. We also had fruit, yogurt and pretzels. Everyone thought it tasted awesome! Many students had two servings of salad.

Our class made a new goal to reach 600 miles. We will plan another salad day party to celebrate.
