Summer programs from Westlake Rec

Community Bike Fair & Bike Rodeo (grades K-5)

Join us for the annual bike rodeo on June 14, 9-11 a.m, on the grounds of the Recreation Center.  Open to kids in grades K-5, this free, informational fair will feature bike helmet safety, music, fun and giveaways. Bike helmet fitting will be available.

Family Campout

Enjoy a night camping under the stars on the Rec Center grounds Friday, June 20. The night includes a hamburger or hot dog dinner, games, activities and a campfire. A continental breakfast will be served in the morning. Bring a side dish for 8 to share. Tent set up begins at 4 p.m. Register in advance at the Recreation Center. Cost is $30 per tent for members, $35 for non-member residents.

Black Dog Lacrosse Camp (ages 6-15)

Campers will learn the fundamentals of the game, teamwork and sportsmanship in a combination of drills and scrimmage games. Beginner and intermediate camps are available. Players should bring a mouth guard with them. Please bring your own stick, OR sticks will be available through the camp. Camp will run June 30-July 3. Fees range from $95 to $115.

Pee Wee Softball (ages 4-5)

This popular program is back and is designed for children not in kindergarten. Must turn 4 by June 1 and not 6 before August 1. Children will learn the basics of the game. Hitting is done by underhand coach pitch. A batting tee will be available upon request. Program runs 2 days a week for 45 minutes each day. Check our Rec Gazette for more details. Program starts June 23 or 24. Cost is $40/member, $45/resident, $50/non-resident.

Youth Basketball Skills, Drills & Fun (grades completed K-4)

This program combines skills and drills with game action. Each practice will feature a designed drill play for the day with the other half of practice full of game time experience. Boys and girls will participate on different days. Program starts June 23 or 24. Cost is $40/resident, $50/non-resident.

41st Annual Phil Bova Baseball Camp (ages 7-14)

Coach Phil Bova leads a staff with over 200 years of coaching experience. This camp includes a daily lunch, shirt and cap. Campers will be taught all aspects of the game. Fee is $240 per camper. For more information visit www.bovacamps.com. June 23-27.

Summer Day Camp (entering grades 1-6)

Our popular summer day camp has been redesigned to embrace the active nature of the Recreation Center. Each week will focus on incorporating a sport or other activity element into daily activities. Lunch and a snack are now included; children will need to bring a towel and swim suit with them daily. Please consult our Rec Gazette for more information and pricing.

The Westlake Baseball School (ages 7-14)

Former St. Edward High School varsity baseball coach John Whelan heads this program. The focus will be on improving your child’s fielding, hitting and throwing technique. There will be a special 2-hour clinic to start and then weekly classes to follow. Check out our website for more information. Clinic will be held on Wednesday, June 18. Fee is $85 for Rec members, $100 for non-members.
