WHS sophomore scores perfect 36 on ACT

Alex Lathem

Westlake High School sophomore Alex Lathem scored a perfect 36 on the ACT test given over the summer. Fewer than 1/10th of 1 percent of the average 1.6 million students who take the ACT annually earn a top score of 36. This is the ninth time in six years a WHS student has earned a perfect score on the test.

Alex is involved in a variety of activities, including band, Jazz Band, Chorale, Men’s Chorus, Science Olympiad, Academic Challenge and Math Madness. He will play Simeon in the upcoming WHS Center Stage Players’ production of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat." As a member of the WHS Latin Club, Alex has been part of the Ohio Certamen team, representing the state at the National Junior Classical League conventions over the summer.

While he is still working on his specific future plans, Alex intends to major in physics and computer science when he attends college.
