March madness hits the Westlake Rec

Team Bulldogs, winners of the 3rd/4th-grade girls division

March Madness invaded the Westlake Recreation Center. Last month more than 120 teams in grades 3-8 participated in this annual event. Teams from all over the area came to showcase their talents on the hardwood court.

Teams with creative names such as the Peanut Butter Cups, the Fluffy Pink Unicorns, the 6’5” and Not Talented, the Dunkin Demons and the Narwhales all came to play. The tournament was held over two days and 14 hours of basketball produced several overtime games as well as sudden-death finishes. In the end, three boys teams and three girls teams walked away with T-shirts and bragging rights for the year.

This year’s girls winners were: 3rd/4th Grade – Bulldogs; 5th/6th Grade – Cats; and 7th/8th Grade – The Charge. This year’s boys winners were: 3rd/4th Grade – Dunkin Demons; 5th/6th Grade – Hawkeyes; and 7th/8th Grade – Devin Thinks He Can Dribble.

Congratulations to all!
