Wednesdays, June 7 and 14 (4-5:30 p.m.) and Thursdays, June 8 and 15 (6:30-8 p.m.) Bow Wow Books – Stop by the Youth Services Department and sign your child up for a 10-minute reading time with a reading therapy dog! Bring your own book or choose one of ours. Registration begins each Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. and each Thursday at 6 p.m.

Wednesday, June 7 (6:30-8:30 p.m.) Horror Film Club – Join us as we explore some of the classic films from the genres of horror, science fiction and suspense. Children under 13 should be accompanied by an adult. Please register.

Wednesday, June 7 (7-8 p.m.) Captain Underpants – Come to the library and explore "The Adventures of Captain Underpants." We will play games and make crafts based on the popular children’s series. Ages 7-9. Please register.

Thursday, June 8 (2-3 p.m.) Great Decisions Discussion Program on World Affairs – Discuss critical global issues facing America today. At the beginning of each month, a copy of the article may be picked up at the Ask Us Desk. Please read the article prior to the meeting. Please register.

Thursday, June 8 (2-3:30 p.m.) Teen Crafts: Duct Tape – Bring out your creativity for a new craft each week. All supplies provided. Grades 7 and up. No registration required.

Thursday, June 8 (7 p.m.) Continuing the Conversation – Join us as we continue discussion about tough issues facing parents and students. This month’s topic is Using Social Media for Information and Support.

Thursday, June 8 (7-8 p.m.) Non-Fiction Book Discussion – The June selection is "Time Travel: A History" by James Gleick.

Friday, June 9 (10:30-11:15 a.m.) and Monday, June 12 (6:30-7:15 p.m.) Adapted Storytime – Children with varying learning styles and abilities learn in a safe, supportive environment where respect and appreciation for differences are encouraged. This 30-minute storytime, followed by time for socialization, is designed for children who may not be successful in a typical storytime experience. Content is geared toward ages 3-7, but all ages are welcome. Siblings may also attend, but must register separately. Registration begins one week before each session.

Monday, June 12 (6-7 p.m.) Medicare – Join us as an OSHIIP (Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program) community liaison provides us with timely information regarding Medicare changes, enrollment in a Medicare prescription drug plan (Part D) and Medicare health plan. Please register.

Monday, June 12 (7-8:30 p.m.) Maker Monday: Augmented and Virtual Reality – Learn about the immersive virtual reality apps available today, and try some out for yourself! Bring your smartphone or tablet if you have one. Please register.

Tuesday, June 13 (10 a.m.-noon) Career Transition Center: Job Applications and Cover Letters – Learn how to manage an application so that yours is read, as well as effective letter-writing techniques for cover, marketing and follow-up letters.

Tuesdays, June 13 and 20 (2:30-3 p.m.) Book Buddies – Teen volunteers help younger students retain their reading skills. This program is designed for children entering grades 1-3 who need extra help practicing reading. Please note: Book Buddy volunteers are neither expected nor trained to correct learning problems or to teach children to read.

Tuesdays, June 13 and 20 (3-4 p.m.) Summer Brain Games – Kids in grades 1-3 can drop in each week for grade-appropriate educational games. Teen volunteers and staff from the Westlake City Schools will be on hand to assist.

Tuesday, June 13 (7-7:30 p.m.) Bedtime Stories: Goodnight Dinosaurs – Put on your pajamas and join Mrs. K as we unwind at the end of the day with quiet stories, songs, fingerplays, and other activities to help us get ready for bedtime. Ages 4-6. Siblings welcome.

Tuesday, June 13 (7-8 p.m.) Hamilton: A Uniquely American Musical – Patrick Fulton, Research Services Librarian for the Cleveland Institute of Music, will discuss the crafting of national identity and popular appeal through the music and rhyme of this contemporary Broadway classic. Tuesday, June 13 (7 p.m.) Tuesday Evening Book Discussion – In June we’ll discuss "The House of Mirth" by Edith Wharton.

Wednesday, June 14 (noon-1:30 p.m.) Career Transition Center: Speaker Series Lunch & Learn – Guest speakers present informative and timely topics for job seekers. Bring your lunch; learn and grow. Coffee provided.

Wednesday, June 14 (3-3:45 p.m.) Kids in the Kitchen – Learn basic cooking skills with fast, simple, no-bake recipes just for kids. For students with special needs and their typical peers. Saturday, June 17 (1-2:15 p.m.) Invasive Plants – Judy Semroc, Conservation Specialist at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, will discuss some of the top invasive plants and why they are problematic, along with some helpful information on how to get rid of them and what to plant in their place. Please register.

Saturday, June 17 (4-5:30 p.m.) STEAM Maker Lab – Design and build a Lego skyscraper strong enough to survive testing on a “shake table.” For students in grades 3-5. Registration begins June 10.

Sunday, June 18 (2-3 p.m.) American Girl Doll Club: Tenney Grant and Logan Everett – We will explore the world of American Girl dolls through activities, games and crafts. Ages 6-11. Registration begins June 11.

Monday, June 19 (2-4:15 p.m.) Monday Movie – Spend your Monday afternoon munching on snacks and watching a movie that’s based on a book! Rated PG-13. Grades 6-11. Featured film: When Jacob discovers clue to a mystery that stretches across time, he finds a home for Peculiar Children.

Monday, June 19 (2-5 p.m.) Pokemon Mini-Camp with Bricks4Kidz – Get ready for an adventure in the world of Pokèmon! Capture wild Pokèmon creatures and train them for battle. Grades 3-5. Registration begins June 12.

Tuesday, June 20 (6-7 p.m.) Cupcake Wars – Team up (or compete solo) to try to create the best cupcake design for our chosen theme ... though you won’t know the theme until we get started! All supplies provided. Grades 7-12. Registration begins June 13.

Tuesday, June 20 (7-8:30 p.m.) Porches: History, Design & Construction – Margaret Lann, Heritage Home Program Associate of the Cleveland Restoration Society, will present the history of porches, their design and construction, and provide information relevant for today’s home owner when considering repair, reconstruction, or adding a porch to a current home. Monday, June 26 (7-7:50 p.m.) Build a Better World Magic Show – Join magical entertainer, Greg Carson, and his live bunny, Trixie, for a “Build a Better World” magic show! FREE tickets available at the Youth Service Desk starting June 19. Limit six per adult.

Thursday, June 29 (7-8:30 p.m.) ArtWalk Gallery Reception – Come view the results of Westlake Porter Public Library’s Art Walk and meet the artists! This free reception is open to all! Photos will be on display in the library the week of June 26.
