Westlake teen receives community service award

Jade Hawk was presented with the award by Westlake Kiwanian, Mayor Dennis Clough

The Westlake Kiwanis presented Jade Hawk with the William E. Sifritt Community Service Award recently at Westlake City Hall.

Jade is a very active volunteer and member of the Westlake community. As a four-year member of the Westlake High School's Key Club, Jade has taken charge of their many service projects such as Adopt-a-Family, Westlake in Bloom flower boxes, and Lutheran Home Arts and Crafts Days. She also helped organize group attendance to Cavs games.

Jade is a member of the Contemporary Youth Orchestra, playing concerts for inner city kids. She also plays in a chamber group for elementary school graduations and for the 1921 Society, Destination Cleveland meeting.

Jade is also a Ohio Music Education Association volunteer, Music a la Mode volunteer, orchestra treasurer and a librarian.

It is volunteerism like this that restores our faith in the youth of tomorrow. Jade’s name will be added to the Westlake Kiwanis Bill Sifritt Community Service plaque hanging in Westlake City Hall for future generations to see. Hopefully this will inspire many more to follow in Jade’s footsteps.
