A Good Friday Experience: Stations of the Cosmic Christ

For centuries, Christians around the world have practiced the devotion of the Stations of the Cross. These stations invite participants into the last hours of Jesus' life. It is a powerful practice that allows one to enter into and thereby relive the final hours of Jesus' life.

The traditional stations, however, covers just 20 hours of Jesus' life. There were many other pivotal events in the life of Jesus, and expanding the stations to include these offers a fresh perspective on a traditional practice.

The Stations of the Cosmic Christ were created by authors Matthew Fox and Bishop Marc Andrus as a way to awaken your own thoughts, prayers, questions and imaginations into a deeper journey and relationship with the Cosmic Christ. According to Matthew Fox, the Cosmic Christ is the archetype that names the divine light that is found in all things.

Each of us are on a journey to discover and give birth to the Christ within ourselves. Christ is in all of us. Christ is the best in all of us. Christ is the God self in all of us.

The Stations of the Cosmic Christ are a series of 16 stations that represent seven "I am" sayings of Jesus, and events in the stories that surround Jesus. A station is a stopping place where you are invited to step outside the flow of daily life and turn your attention to the most valuable things in life. Each stop along the Stations of the Cosmic Christ provides an opportunity for contemplation, meditation and prayer.

Unity Spiritual Center in Westlake is sharing the Stations of the Cosmic Christ as a Good Friday Experience. Unity Hall will be set up with all 16 stations including: In the beginning was the word, I am the light of the world, Nativity, Baptism, I am the Bread of Life, Transfiguration, I am the Vine, Do it to the Least, I am the Good Shepherd, I am the Door, I am the Way, The Crucifixion, The Resurrection, I am the Resurrection, The Ascension, and Pentecost.

There will be eight areas set up, each containing two stations and an activity to support participants in integrating the ideas of the stations into their own lives. Participants can attend any time between noon and 7 p.m., and can journey through the stations in their own time.

Unity Spiritual Center is located at 23855 Detroit Road. For more information call 440-835-0400.
