History of street names in Westlake, Part 1

  • Maple Ridge Cemetery on Columbia Road in Westlake originally started as the Hall family cemetery and Columbia Road was known as Hall Road in Dover.

  • According to Dover resident and author Fern Standen Crehan, it was George L. Cooley's idea to extend Hilliard Boulevard through Westlake. Cooley would have lived in this circa 1916 home at 2773 Dover Center Road when Hilliard was extended.

  • The "Original Porter House," circa 1833 at 4277 Porter Road in North Olmsted. Relatives of Leonard Porter, founder of Westlake Porter Public Library lived here. This portion of North Olmsted was once part of Dover Township.

  • The Smith cemetery marker at Maple Ridge Cemetery. The Smith and Hawkins families gave their names to several of the streets in one of the early residential subdivisions in Dover.

  • The Schwartz House, circa 1873, at 3509 Bradley Road.
