The exhibit, in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration and Drug Enforcement Administration Educational Foundation, provides an eye-opening look at the devastating costs of drug abuse.

Cuyahoga County Public Library (CCPL), together with the Drug Enforcement Administration and Drug Enforcement Administration Educational Foundation, is proud to announce the opening of the traveling exhibit: "Drugs: Costs & Consequences" at its Parma-Snow Branch located at 2121 Snow Road in Parma.

“We are excited to bring this informative exhibit to the greater-Cleveland area,” said Drug Enforcement Administration Special Agent in Charge Keith Martin, Detroit Field Division. “I’m particularly proud of the Our Local Story exhibit, which does a great job of highlighting the tremendous work DEA agents do right here in our own community.”

The exhibit was developed in partnership with The DEA Educational Foundation, The Center for Substance Abuse Prevention, The National Institute on Drug Abuse, the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy and The Partnership for a Drug Free America. It premiered Sept. 11, 2002, at the DEA Museum in Arlington, Virginia.

Visited by more than 22 million people since its inception, the exhibit reveals the full costs and consequences of drug abuse and presents a historical overview of the impact of drugs on society, including an in-depth look at drug production and trafficking; an overview of the science of addiction; and the costs of drug abuse on society, the environment, health and communities. The exhibit features interactive kiosks; rubble from the 9/11 tragedy highlighting the consequences of narco terrorism; and local stories illustrating drug abuse and trafficking in Ohio and how education, law enforcement and treatment groups are rising up to meet these local challenges.

“Cuyahoga County Public Library is the first public library system to host this exhibition. We are proud to make this important educational experience available to our customers and residents throughout Northeast Ohio. Our hope is that the learning that takes place within the exhibit translates into positive action in our community,” said Tracy Strobel, Cuyahoga County Public Library executive director.

Admission to Drugs: Costs & Consequences is free and open to the public. The exhibit will be open through June 21 during library hours. More details can be found at www.cuyahogalibrary.org/dea.

Volunteer opportunities are available for those interested in helping guide visitors through the exhibit; experts who would like to provide group presentations on topics relevant to their field of expertise (such as mental health, criminal justice, substance use and abuse, prevention and treatment); and those with a background in mentoring, mental health, substance use and counseling and are comfortable meeting with youth experiencing acute distress.
