Barb Gauthier receives Porter Library volunteer award
Barb Gauthier receives a commemorative plaque naming her the 2022 Myrna Chelko Volunteer Award winner from Westlake Porter Public Library Director Andrew Mangels.
Barb Gauthier received the 2022 Myrna Chelko Volunteer Award from Westlake Porter Public Library at a special ceremony preceding the April 20 board meeting. The award is given annually to the volunteer who best demonstrates the spirit of volunteerism exemplified by its namesake, Myrna Chelko.
Gauthier joined the Friends of Porter Public Library in January 2021. When the long-time Portables Gift Shop manager decided to step down, she almost immediately expressed an interest in taking over. Gauthier began managing Portables shortly after meeting with the outgoing manager, and in her first year of running Portables the store netted over $21,000! It is due to Gauthier stepping in and maintaining the excellent quality of merchandise and service that Portables is known and loved for that it still exists.
Myrna Chelko was a long-time library volunteer who was known for her dedication to the library and her hard work. She helped found the Friends of Porter Public Library 50 years ago (1972), and her many volunteer services include being an officer of that group and a Library Board member.
