WBVO honored as one of top Ohio newspapers

For the first time in our 14-year history, the editorial staff of the Westlake | Bay Village Observer decided to throw our hat in the ring for industry recognition by participating in the Press Club of Cleveland's 2022 All Ohio Excellence in Journalism Awards.

We selected our three favorite issues from 2021 – it was hard to pick just three! – and sent them off to be judged by an out-of-state press club.

On June 10, the results were announced and WBVO took third place in our category: Best Non-Daily Newspaper in Ohio: Community Newspaper. Not bad for an all-volunteer writing staff!

My dad and co-publisher, Denny, and I are so pleased to share this news with our 1,300+ citizen writers and photographers who have made this newspaper such a beloved asset in Westlake and Bay Village, and the tens of thousands of readers who rely on the Observer as a source of grassroots community news.

Congratulations to all of our contributors, and thank you to our advertisers and donors who keep the paper free for all to enjoy.

This statewide industry honor is a shining light after two years of pandemic struggles, but even more meaningful are the handwritten notes, emails and phone calls of encouragement from readers that feed our passion to provide a publication that the whole community can be proud of.
