Farmers market opens at Crocker Park April 16

The North Union Farmers Market at Crocker Park opens April 16, 2011

Spring is in the air! What better way to celebrate than to join us for the opening of the eighth season of the North Union Farmers Market at Crocker Park?

This year’s market opens on April 16 at 9:00 a.m. and is located on the corners of Crocker Road and Market Street. Join us in welcoming back your favorite farmers with spring greens, apples, maple syrup, honey, dairy, pasture-raised meats and much more! You’ll even see some new faces behind the table with new products!

Our staff has worked hard throughout the winter contacting farms and vendors to continue this treasured community market. We even hosted a farmers’ conference – A Time to Grow –in January which focused on growing the quality produce and pastures through healthy soil. Through this type of programming, North Union Farmers Market is ensuring that the highest quality produce, meat and dairy is being offered at the market!

Following tradition, we open with a blessing of the market by Rev. Philip G. Racco of St. Bernadette’s with hopes for a safe and fruitful season. More highlights include sheep-shearing, live music by local group Burning River Jazz Quartet and "Chef at the Market" featuring Chef Matthew Anderson, of UMAMI Asian Kitchen, who will prepare delicious breakfast samples using products from the market.

North Union Farmers Market is proud to announce that we will be accepting SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) Cards at the Crocker Park Market. SNAP recipients may bring their Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards to the farmers market and obtain tokens which may be used to purchase fresh local vegetables, fruits, dairy products, meat products, honey, preserves, baked goods, plants used to produce food at home, and more. SNAP recipients should first visit the “Market Information” table to receive tokens before purchasing items.

North Union Farmers Market will be open on Saturday, April 16, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., rain or shine, at Crocker Park. It continues every Saturday through November 19, supplying locally grown products from Ohio farmers.
