Light up Bay Village for the holiday season

Once again this holiday season, the Christmas spirit will shine a little more brightly in Bay Village.

The Bay Village Historical Society and the Bay Village Kiwanis are asking Bay Village residents and children of all ages to join them in celebrating an old-fashioned community Christmas in December.

Rose Hill Museum is beautifully decorated for the holiday season. This year’s display highlights the White House Christmas cards designed by artist and Bay Village native Thomas William Jones, along with other Bay Village scenes. While you are at the museum, you can search for the hidden holiday nutcrackers.

Rose Hill Museum will be open free of charge on Wednesdays, Dec. 6, 13, and 20, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m, and on Sundays, Dec. 10 and 17, from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Guides will be dressed in period costumes. The Victorian Parlor at Rose Hill will be getting a facelift this winter. Come see it as it has been for the past 50 years.

“The Night Before Christmas” will be read at the museum by Preston Postle on Dec. 13, 17 and 20. The Bay Middle School seventh grade strings will perform on Dec. 10 at 2:30 p.m.

There will be spinning and weaving demonstrations every day the museum is open. The Medina Spinning and Weaving Guild, the Lorain County Spinners and Weavers and the Crooked River Rug Hookers will be leading these demonstrations.

See the 1830s loom and purchase items woven on it. The museum gift shop will be open for holiday purchases. This is also the opportunity to see the newly constructed working model of the Cahoon family gristmill.

Have your family (even the dog!) photographed with Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus aboard a refurbished wooden sleigh on Dec. 10, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. A donation of $20 is requested, cash or check payable to the Bay Village Historical Society, collected at the event.
